Mangal Inscript Keyboard Guide
Understanding the official Indian Government standard layout for typing Unicode Hindi on modern computers.
What is Mangal Inscript?
Mangal Inscript is a layout built specifically for Devanagari script processing. The term "Mangal" refers to the default Unicode font name, while "Inscript" (Indian Script) is the standard layout configuration.
Unlike Remington which simulates old typing machines, Inscript is phonetic. The keyboard is split logically:
- Left Hand side: Handles all vowels (स्वर) and their corresponding matra variations.
- Right Hand side: Handles all consonants (व्यंजन) and conjuncts.

Why Choose Inscript over Remington?
- Cross-Platform Compatibility: Because it is standard Unicode, text typed in Inscript will render perfectly on any website, phone, or database without needing custom fonts.
- Fewer Alt Codes: Almost every complex compound conjunct can be typed directly using standard key sequences (e.g. typing Halant to join characters).
- Exam Adoption: Many centralized systems like CPCT, SSC, and Railway Recruitment Boards mandate Mangal Inscript.
